Forest Academy of Learning

Welcome back to a new academic year at Little Forest Academy of Learning! We hope you and your children had a wonderful holiday break and are excited to start the new year. The term has already begun with a solid foundation for success.
This year we have implemented some exciting new initiatives to enable our learners to
have access to an even more holistic learning experience.
Our learners from Grade 00 to 8 have been given the option to take either Afrikaans or Zulu as their additional language of choice.
We are so privileged to have Mrs Marais (Mrs M) teaching again at LFA. She will be teaching High School Afrikaans. Ms M’s extensive teaching career spanning decades has seen her teaching Matric Afrikaans for most of her career. Her glowing resume includes being a Master Teacher and moderator. She is one of a small group of individuals who have been approached by, and have marked, the matric year-end exams for the Department of Basic Education.
We have introduced two new extra-curricular activities. Firstly, for the children who enjoy sport, we have introduced Playball. Playball teaches our children the fundamentals of most ball sports.
Secondly, we have introduced Robotics and Coding. This program uses robots which the children code themselves enabling the robots to perform specific tasks.

We will be celebrating Valentine’s Day on the14th of February. This time-honoured LFA tradition has always come with huge fun and prizes, this year will be no exception. Our learners will be asked to bring treats for Cake and Candy, they will be permitted to dress in civvies, prizes will be awarded for the best dressed as well as for dance-offs and other fun activities. Not to mention our highly sought-after raffle prize.
We will also be inviting the Science lab to delight us with their experiments during the First Term. This is both extremely educational as well as highly entertaining!
School starts at 07:30 in the mornings. Learners are encouraged not to be late for school as they miss out on education and disrupt classes. All extra-curricular activities start in the second week of the term and end at 15:00 in the afternoon. A detailed list of activities available and scheduled days has been provided to all parents.

We have separated the High School from the Primary School in terms of breaks. This means that the children are all free to use the full playground.
Ms M’s famous, delicious tuckshop will now be open on a Tuesday and a Friday. No longer only on a Friday.
Please contact the school phone for any day-to-day matters on 067 376 0237. These include matters such as late arrival, forgotten homework or lunch, timetable or extra-curricular activities etc.
Homework will be placed on Google classroom for your convenience. Your child’s class code has been provided to you. Learners from Grade 4 upwards are responsible for writing their own homework in their diaries. The Google classroom is to assist you as parent in following up on homework.
In conclusion a reminder that a strong learning community involves students, teachers, parents and guardians equally. You play an integral part of your child’s educational journey. The teacher guides the learning process, the learner actively engages with the material, and the parent provides support and reinforcement at home, creating a collaborative learning environment that optimizes student success. We thank you for your involvement in your child’s education and we look forward to being a significant part of your child’s journey.
Kind regards
LL van der Merwe (B Ed Intermediate and Senior Phase) Principal
